To lighten hair.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One fresh lemon.
  • Knife to cut lemon.
  • Cup for juice.
  • Towel and shampoo.
  1. Step 1

The safest way to lighten gray or blonde hair is to use lemon juice.
I prefer juice of a fresh lemon. You could try Realemon in a bottle for convenience.

  2. Step 2

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a plastic or paper cup.

Wash hair as usual, rinsing completely, then add some warm water to the lemon juice. Pour into your hair, keep out of eyes.
Let this sit on your hair as long as you feel comfortable with it, probably 4 min. or so.
Then rinse hair again and condition if necessary.
    Towel dry.

  3. Step 3

This can be done every other time or so you wash your hair. Then if you can sit in the sun a while or work in the garden or yard a bit with hair exposed to sunlight it will add a continued bleaching and whitening affect.
Wear a swim cap while in a pool. The beach forget it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you are careful not to get lemon in eyes.
  • Blow dry hair to make it fluffy and bouncy after washing and whitening.
  • Some conditioner will probably be necessary since gray hair is often somewhat stiffer. Hair has became more porus over the years and is brittle too.
  • Don't over do it with the process. Just try it to the amount that works good for you. I had long blonde hair as a child, and my mom and I would do the lemon thing in summer for fun. No salons on the farm.

on 8/26/2008 I was reading an article where corn starch is brush through show-dogs white hair to make it brighter and whiter. Maybe that would work on humans too?
