You can lose weight without exercise or watching calories - just by eliminating two unhealthy ingredients from your diet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • list of ingredients that mean gluten and casein (see www.gfcfdiet.com or www.foodandillness.com)
  • grocery list
  • pen
  1. Step 1

Talk with your doctor. Let your doctor know that you're considering a gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet for health. You want to try it to see if it helps you lose weight, feel better, eliminate food cravings, etc. Your doctor may want to put you on a calcium supplement, or a multivitamin and mineral supplement. More doctors are learning about the many benefits of a GFCF diet, so your doctor may also want to monitor your progress.

  2. Step 2

Get the wrong foods out and the right foods into your kitchen. Read food labels and eliminate any foods that contain gluten or casein. Gluten foods are anything with flour, wheat, barley, rye, or triticale, such as beer, baked goods, breads and breading. Casein foods are dairy products - milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and cheese-flavored anything. Replace them with GFCF foods, including substitute foods and foods that are naturally gluten-free, casein-free foods. Substitute foods are usually made with an alternative to regular (wheat) flour. Examples include pasta made from rice or corn, GFCF brownies, cookies, and pretzels. Substitutes for dairy include soy cheese, soy milk, rice milk, and nut milks.

  3. Step 3

Eat more food, and lose weight. Eat vegetables, fruits, meats, nuts, eggs, and non-gluten grains such as corn, rice, quinoa... Watch the extra pounds melt away when you eliminate gluten and casein. Let's skip the long, boring explanation of how gluten and casein make you gain weight; all that matters is when people stop eating those ingredients, they often lose that extra weight.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cravings for wheat and dairy may get worse for the first few days before disappearing, or they may disappear immediately.
  • On this diet, you will likely stop getting hungry in the way that you did before. You will begin to feel true stomach hunger, instead of what you now think of as hunger. True stomach hunger will be much less frequent (usually once or twice a day), and much smaller amounts of food will satsify it than what it currently takes to satisfy your hunger.
  • Many diabetics find that they don't need as much insulin after cutting gluten and casein, even if they replace the number of carbohydrates via rice and other foods. If you're diabetic and your doctor approves trying this diet, be on the lookout for hypoglycemic reactions (blood sugar lows) for the first few days. Talk to your doctor if you need to adjust your medication.
  • ADHD patients sometimes find that they don't need as much medication and their dose may need to be adjusted or eliminated.
