Things You'll Need:
- Paper and pen
- A calculator
-
Step 1
Have a paper and pen handy in your car when your at the pump. Now just fill your tank.
-
Step 2
Collecting the info. Record ,in order, the date, the current odometer reading and how many gallons that you pumped. Repeat this step a couple more times that you go to the gas station to get a good average of numbers.
-
Step 3
The Math. Pull out the calculator and get ready... Subtract the second odometer reading from the first to find out how many miles were traveled from the last time you were at the pump. Use this number in the next step.
-
Step 4
Now that you have the miles traveled, simply divide by how many gallons it took to refill the tank. The result will be your car's average Miles Per Gallon yield for that driving period. Like mentioned above, continue these steps a few more times to get a solid average. Good Luck!
