Learn that needless bird window collision deaths can be prevented. It has been estimated by the Audubon Society that one billion songbirds die each year from hitting glass windows in homes and commercial buildings.
The reason for this is that they see a reflection in the window that appears to be an escape route and fly into it.
There are some ways that you can keep birds from hitting your windows.
One involves putting bird feeders three feet or closer to windows so they don't have time to get up enough speed to hurt themselves. Placing the feeders thirty feet or more away from the window is also effective.

Put up deterrents. One way to prevent bird window collisions are visual bird deterrents. These come in the form of peel and stick stickers or cling on stickers that are easy to remove. Placing items such as wind chimes in front of windows can also help.

Use a physical barrier. Another very effective method is a full window screen or netting. This can be a very fine mesh that covers the entire window. When full window screens use a solar blocking material there can also be energy savings.
Keeping light colored drapes closed across windows when you are away also reduced the reflective effect of the glass. For more information see the Fatal Light Awareness Project's site.
