Step 1
Family Dinners: It's been said that grocery shopping once a week rather than every day can actually save you money from impulse buys to gas in the car. Each weekend take a moment to look through the cabinets and refrigerator before making your list - keeping in mind the upcoming week worth of meals. For example, one week I will write on a notepad on the refrigerator: Mon - chicken cutlets, Tue - spaghetti, Wed - tacos, Thurs - hot dogs, Fri - pork chops. This way I knew, at a glance, what to pull from the freezer to thaw or marinate in the mornings. I really enjoyed using the slow cooker during the day so that dinner was ready when everyone got home. I try to make it a habit for our family to eat together every night even if we are sitting together watching a movie.

Step 2
Homework Space: It's important for kids to have a set space to do homework in that has all supplies that would be needed. Whether it is the kitchen table or a desk, make sure it has plenty of light, supplies and get rid of other distractions. I've used clear tabletop storage bins for pencils, paper, markers, rulers, etc. I try not to force homework on my kids the minute they get home - let them unwind a little, have a snack and then help them get started. There are always notes to read or tests to sign that you can be doing while they start homework.

Step 3
Clothes: Why battle with your children on what to wear to school? My motto is, "Wear what you want as long as it's weather appropriate!" On Sundays, the kids pick out clothes for the week, keeping in mind what the weather should be, gym classes and special days. They pick it out and then we'll go through it together just to make sure we didn't forget anything.
