Things You'll Need:
- Paper & pen to write list
- Coupons (if applicable)
- Sunday newspaper (optional but helpful)
-
Step 1
Know what's on sale. Check the newspaper to find specials at stores near you. If you don't get the paper, grab a sales flyer at the front of the store or use the Internet to save money on groceries. Most big chains feature their newspaper specials online as well. Search by chain name and go from there. Store specials, especially buy one, get one free offers, can really help you save money on groceries!
-
Step 2
Use coupons, but only for things you'd buy anyway. Using coupons to buy items you don't normally buy rarely makes sense unless you want to try a new brand, formula or flavor. If you can find a store that doubles coupons, shop there to maximize your coupon power.
-
Step 3
Buy store or generic brands. They are high quality and are often made by the same companies as the name brands, especially canned goods and cereals. Store brands are often still cheaper than name brands on sale!
-
Step 4
Use a list. You'll only buy what you need and avoid pricey impulse buys. Keep the list on the refrigerator so you can update it as needed.
