Things You'll Need:
- Creativity
- Positive attitude
- Thinking outside-the-box
-
Step 1
Think plants. Plants are much more budget-friendly than fresh cut flowers. Orchids are good choices, and have the added bonus of coming in a variety of sizes and colors to fit your room and color scheme. As an added bonus, the stems aren’t thick, allowing your guests to talk to one another through the centerpiece. Other options are cactus groupings, bonsai trees, herbs or anything else native to your environment.
Your guests will be clamoring over who gets to take home the centerpiece, and it will live for weeks serving as a reminder of your wonderful wedding. -
Step 2
Incorporate candles into your centerpiece. Candles can be inexpensive and add elegance to a table and come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Mix and match candles on the table for a look that expresses the two of you. Floating candles look fantastic too!
-
Step 3
Reposition lighting in your reception hall. If your reception is in a ballroom or convention hall, ask that the lights be turned toward the centerpieces, bringing each person’s eye to the centerpiece & creating an illusion of an even more elaborate centerpiece.
-
Step 4
Use your imagination for centerpiece themes. Brainstorm activities you and your betrothed enjoy, and decorate each table with something that reflects you as a couple. For instance, if you enjoy the beach, or are having a beach themed wedding, place a bunch of seashells in a glass bowl on a mirrored plate or surrounded by glass beads. If you are college sweethearts, decorate the middle of each table with pennants or alma-mater themed merchandise.
-
Step 5
Display photos of you and your significant other. Another alternative is to put a collection of posed and informal photos in frames in the middle of each table. Your guests will ooh and aah over how perfect the two of you are together. Don’t be surprised if people are circulating around the room to look at the photos at each other’s tables. Photos are sure to spark enthusiastic dinner conversation among table mates.
-
Step 6
Be creative with your centerpiece base. There is no rule that a centerpiece base has to be made of glass. Charger plates, serving platters, or bamboo placemats make great centerpiece bases at a fraction of the cost of glass vases or bowls.
-
Step 7
Shop around for the best prices on centerpiece bases. Look online for discounted serving platters, candleholders or vases. Shopping sale or outlet selections on popular home furnishing sites will enable you to find wonderful items at a huge percent off retail prices.
