Make Homemade Hot Chocolate Fudge Sauce from Scratch

This hot fudge sauce has been a family recipe for 40 years. The sauce is thick, fudgy, rich, inexpensive, easy to make, and wonderful to give as gifts at holiday time.

Makes about 5 1/2 cups.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • jars for storing
  1. Step 1

Melt butter and chocolate chips in a large saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Step 2

    Stir constantly until melted.

  3. Step 3

Slowly add powdered sugar and evaporated milk.

  4. Step 4

Increase heat and bring to a boil. Stir constantly for 8 minutes. (This step is very important. You want the ingredients to boil together so that the sauce is the proper consistency.)

  5. Step 5

Remove from heat ans stir in vanilla and salt.

  6. Step 6

Pour into glass jars and store in refrigerator. Makes about 5 1/2 cups.

  7. Step 7

To serve, dip a small amount out of jar and microwave for a few seconds to heat.

  8. Step 8

Serve over ice cream, angel food cake, and pound cake. Also delicious as a chocolate dip for fruit, cookies, and marshmallows.
