Step 1
Ask for smaller portions, share a meal with your companion, or take half of the meal home. Portions today are more than the average person needs.
-
Step 2
Avoid the salt and processed foods that would contain salt such as cocktail sauces, smoked foods, some broths or au jus, and teriyaki sauce.
-
Step 3
Ask for something different than what is listed. Many times you can have an appetizer made into an entree or have sauces on the side. Ask for two vegetables in place of potato and tell the waiter to skip the bread.
-
Step 4
Avoid dishes with lots of cheese or dressings. Instead of fried, ask for broiled or grilled. Avoid the all-you-can-eat buffets. Instead of coleslaw, ask for a salad or steamed vegetables.
-
Step 5
Still want dessert? Go for it, but buy one and everyone share it. It's fun to buy a rich dessert, but with more sharing it, you have less calories but still satisfy the craving.
