Chicken Fried Steak also know as Country Fried Steak is a wonderful comfort food if prepared right , Here is a old SOUTHERN recipe my Grandma used.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

  • Flour

  • salt & pepper
  • a clove of garlic

  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Cajun Spice
  1. Step 1

    THE MEAT
    You can buy cube steaks
    OR
As I lke tyo do, I buy 1/2 thick round steak & pound it till it is aprox 1/4 inch thick

  2. Step 2

    SEASON THE MEAT

Get a large seasoning shaker , Put 2 tablespoons EACH of Salt , Black Pepper , onion powder , garlic powder & Cajun Spice into the shakers

Season both side of the meat

  3. Step 3

THE ONION & GARLIC & This is the secret to SOUTHERN FRIED FOOD

Chop 1/2 a medium onion it to large chunks
Smash & chop 1 garlic clove

  4. Step 4

    THE OIL
Get a large frying pan & pour in 1/2 inch of cooking oil
ADD the chopped onions & garlic to the oil
Start heating the oil to aprox 425 F.

The onions & garlic will stay in the oil the whole time the meat is cooking , It will get all black & crusty looking , BUT that is OK , it is in there to season the oil & not to eat.

  5. Step 5

    COATING THE MEAT
    As the oil heats
Scramble a few eggs & pour into a shallow dish

Get another shallow dish & put a few cups og flour in it

Coat both sides of the meat with flour
    Qickly dip into thye eggs
& them back into the flour

  6. Step 6

    COOKING THE MEAT

CAREFULLY put the coated meat into the hot oil with the onions & garlic
Cook on both sides for aprox 10 minute till Golden Brown

When Done , Place on a rack or paper towels to drain the excess oil

  7. Step 7

    COUNTRY GRAVY
