Blogging can be free, and it can generate lots of web traffic and get your name out. Here we review basic strategies to make your blog a success.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Blog account
  1. Step 1

Have an internet business or looking to get the word out about something? A blog is the perfect way to do it. A blog is an easy way to build a large presence on the internet without spending any money. In fact you can make your blog work for you. The first step is to sign up somewhere that you can have a blog. I recommend using blogger.com, which is owned by google. Its easy to use with little computer experience. You can sign up at http://www.blogger.com/home. Pick a specific niche you will use to target with your blog, like cat ownership, dog training, photography, or learning computer languages. Whatever it is that you sell you can blog about it.

  2. Step 2

Now start writing and post often. The more content you have, the more your blog will turn up in search engines. My experience has been that blog posts on blogger.com come up pretty quickly in google. To keep readers interested, focus on quality rather than quantity, but post on a regular basis. Set a goal with a minimum of posting twice a week. But posting 3-5 times per week is better-but again you want to focus on quality. Its better to post 2 times per week writing content that has high value for your audience, as opposed to posting daily with useless blurbs or information people can find anywhere. And be patient. It will take time for the posts to begin to attract attention, but if you write posts with relevant content for your audience, your blog will attract attention.

  3. Step 3

Mix up the style and size of your posts. Add photographs to some posts. Make some posts short, others long. Write original content most of the time, but mix it up by calling attention to relevant news items or videos on you tube. Keep your readers interested and make them want to spend a long time on your blog.

  4. Step 4

Don't just sit there and use the default style provided by Blogger to generate the appearance of your blog. You can modify fonts, colors, add menus and more. Enlarge the fonts, and choose colors that stand out well on the screen. Add menus to help your readers navigate your blog and link to other websites (some of which may be your own where you sell stuff). The nicer and more readable your blog looks, the more readers it will attract.

  5. Step 5

Let your readers comment on the posts and email postings to their friends. You can find out how to do this on the blogger.com web site. By allowing these two options, you not only provide stuff to read, but you start to build a community that's going to grow with time.

  6. Step 6

Let readers subscribe to your blog. This will alert them when you have a new post.

  7. Step 7

Monetize your blog. Consider becoming a clickbank affiliate and adding links to clickbank products that are related to your blog topic. They pay large commissions ($20 per sale is typical) and many of the products are actually high quality. Add Google Ad Sense, and provide links and reviews to products you're selling yourelf.

  8. Step 8

Get "Blogger: Beyond the Basics" by Lee Jordan. It will expand on many of the suggestions made here with specific instructions and give you many more ideas to turn your blog into a money making machine. Above all, have fun. Think about your passion and blog about it and make the money secondary, and readership will flow to your blog.
