Step 1
Get very comfortable. Some people are comfortable on their belly, others on their back. Some with a soft pillow, others with a firm pillow. You get the point. Get comfortable.
-
Step 2
Make sure the temperature in the room is kinda cool. Cover yourself with a sheet or a blanket. Some people are most comfortable with one foot out, or even just a toe.
-
Step 3
Now the tough part. Clear your mind of all things. If you know what thoughts are keeping you from sleep. One by one Ok them. If there is something bothering you need to justify that it's going to be ok. You will need to realize that you don't have control and that your ok with it. Tell yourself yes, I know I'm nervous about the upcoming (whatever), but its ok to be nervous, and what happens is going to happen. Come to grips with it. Don't think more about it, and slowly sweep these thoughts away.
-
Step 4
One by one think about each thought physically being swept under the carpet. Put a mental image to the thought, and watch it as a broom pushes it under a carpet. Slowly start to picture the room your laying in being all white. The whole room is painted white. There is nothing on the walls, nothing on the floor.. Your in a complete white room.. start to relax and feel your body just float. Keep thinking about the white room. As time goes on just think white, everything is white.. All you are going to think about is white. White and let yourself drift off to sleep. Do not let your mind wander. Just think white.

on 12/8/2008 Thanks for the information. For the last four nights, I have been up until 6 or 7 unable to sleep. I was wondering what my body was trying to tell me.
