It is important that you recognize any potential symptoms of lung cancer before it's too late. While lung cancer is a disease that mainly affects smokers, anyone can develop the disease. 90% of lung cancers are associated with cigarettes. Smokers are more likely to develop lung cancer than non smokers. So smokers should pay more attention to their body and recognize early symptoms of lung cancer.

on 10/11/2008 Cancer and many other disorders and diseases are not merely matter of physical "do-s" and "don't do-s". In numerous patients, cancer develop even leading a very healthy lifestyle in terms of nutrition, exercise, sleep, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol and drugs. Emotional and mental parts of the human being should be balanced as well. It's a big difference between eating healthy forcing yourself every day, and doing it out of fear of dying or getting sick, and it's another thing to do it out of respect and love for your own body. It's just one example.

on 10/11/2008 Sunscreens will block the ability of your skin to pruduce vitamin D which is very significant factor for preventing cancer. Besides, they are full of toxic chemicals that absorb through your skin into your blood stream. Everyone should get adequate amount of sunlight daily, if possible, without getting sunburnt and without using sunscreen!

on 9/14/2008 Excellent comment Richard! And yes, it was a nice, simple article that brought one important point home: live a healthy life and treat your body and skin right and you'll go a long way to prevent cancer. And yes, it is important to get the right screenings - if you do have cancer, early detection can make a huge difference.

on 8/19/2008 These are great "simple" tips for avoiding (“detecting” early warnings is a better concept I feel) cancer. However, as a practicing clinician I would like to add that it is important for people to understand and what to expect from an annual physical exam that includes cancer screening. Do not just assume the average annual checkup covers all bases. First your provider needs a detailed family history on which to base their exam on. A comprehensive skin exam and colorectal is essential for everyone. For women annual pap/pelvic/mammograms are also needs. Men need prostate exams that include the blood test for prostate cancer (PSA) and digital rectal exam. Young men also need a comprehensive testicular exam. Men who have sex with men should also have an anal pap done. The list is very extensive. My comment is more of reminder to go over your history with your provider and look at t
