How to Get College Credit by Testing (CLEP)

You can test with CLEP for your freshman and up to Sophomore years of college. Two years completed by simply testing the materials. You need to set up an appointment with the college's counselors to find out about the cost and what will be accepted by most colleges. There is a basic comprehensive package for: History, Social Studies, Math, Algebra, English and other basic courses.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Books on the subjects you plan to test for.
  • Money to pay for each course.
  • Check with the school you plan to attend for credits, that is allowed.
  1. Step 1

    Some of the freshman courses will give you 6 hours of credit for each testing. These are the basic courses that are required to enter college.
    You will need to allow for at least 3 weeks for studying before taking the tests. There are books available on sample questions that are available at the library, or you can purchase a book at a bookstore.

  2. Step 2

    If you are in High School, you may be allowed to test before you graduate from High School. Check with your school counselor for the guidelines on CLEP. You should plan on testing for at least 2 hours or more.

  3. Step 3

    If you are an adult, you can test on basic comprehension and other subjects to complete your requirements for your major or minor,or for your degree requirements. You can test for marketing, biology and other related degree requirements. Check with your school and counselor before taking the test.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can get up to 60 hours of college credits with CLEP.
  • You can get additional credit for your degree or major.
  • You can get a sample of questions that will be on the test from test books.
  • Don't take the test without studying the subject.
  • Check with the college you plan to attend before testing.
