Want a classic treat this fall season? Why not make some taffy apples?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bag of red or green apples
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • wooden popsicle sticks
  • candy thermometer
  • wax paper
  • chopped nuts if desired
  1. Step 1

    Wash and dry all apples, sticking wooden popsicle sticks into the top of them. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

    Add all ingredients into a large saucepan on medium heat. Stir constantly.

  3. Step 3

    With the candy thermometer, check mixture until it reaches 246 degrees F. Remove mixture from heat and allow it to thicken.

  4. Step 4

    Dip apples one by one into the mixture and set aside onto the wax paper to cool.

  5. Step 5

    Enjoy your yummy treat!!!

on 10/22/2008 Made these with my daughter,they were delicious!I would just add a bit to Step 3: Be patient as the mixture thickens as if you coat to early it will just drip off apples.Check it every 5 to 10 mins. with a spoon until you get a nice thick resistence to the stir. When you lift spoon from mixture it should cling more than run. We used chopped nuts & Honeycrisp apples & they were the bomb! Enjoy :)
