-
Step 1
Raise your thermostat to 78 degrees. A small change that makes a big difference in your bill total.
-
Step 2
Shut the doors and close the vents to rooms you don't use daily. Unused rooms do not need air conditioning.
-
Step 3
Wear shorts and t-shirts and go barefoot. Dress like it's summertime!
-
Step 4
Place box fans in high traffic rooms. The circulating air will help to cool your house.
-
Step 5
Shut blinds and curtains.
-
Step 6
Only use your oven and range at night. The heat produced by either can really heat up your kitchen and surrounding rooms.
-
Step 7
Run the dishwasher only when it is full.
-
Step 8
Turn your lights off! You don't really need as much light as you think. Ever tried showering in the dark? It can be quite relaxing with a few lit candles.
-
Step 9
Avoid opening and closing doors to outside.
-
Step 10
Keep the refrigerator door shut. Know what you want before you open it and try to avoid gazing at what you have available while you decide what you want to eat.
