Things You'll Need:
- School Supplies
- Schedule
- Markers, Colored Pencils, highlighters, or crayons.
- Enthusiasm!! (most important :)
- Locker lock
- Handbag (if you're a girl)
-
Step 1
Get your schedule and look over it the night before to get a general idea of what it will be like. If you have any questions or think there's a typo in your schedule go early in the morning and ask a teacher.
-
Step 2
If there are any school events that will let you take a tour of the school before your first day take advantage of them, it will help you out a lot!!
-
Step 3
Print out a map of the school if you can! Plan your hallway routes if you want to .
-
Step 4
Color-code your schedule to coordinate with your notebooks and folders for each subject. For instance:
English-Purple
Math-Green
Social Studies-Blue
Science-Red
etc.
On the schedule sketch lightly over the subjects with that color coordinating to the notebooks. Make several copies and put one in your locker, one in your handbag (if you're a girl), and a couple on binders and folders. -
Step 5
Have plenty of pens and pencils and paper!! Be prepared for class, it will impress the teachers.
-
Step 6
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS
WALK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HALLWAY AND OPEN THE RIGHT SIDE DOORS -
Step 7
Don't wear body piercings, excessive makeup or use foul language at school, it leaves a bad first impression. The average person forms and opinion within 20 seconds, so you want the teachers (and students) to have a good impression of you to make it a good four years!
-
Step 8
Get plenty of rest the night before, if you can, ahead of time, start decreasing your bed time a week or so before so you can fall asleep with ease and get plenty of rest for your big day!
-
Step 9
Pack a bag (if you're a girl, of course) this will help you through the day and it's basically your kit to life!! Pack everything that could be of use to you (don't go overboard!!)
Important items include:
Brush
Lipgloss
Touch up makeup
Mints
Lunch Money (mu-lah)
Calculator
Feminine Hygene, whatever you use (bring plenty in case a friend needs to borrow you can be there to help!)
Lotion
Hand Sanitizer
Pens/Pencils (if you don't keep them in a binder)
Cell phone (remember school policies for this and obey them)
Watch (so you can make it to class on time w/out turning on your phone since most schools don't permit phones to be turned ON)
Mini Notepad
Snack/water bottle (if allowed)
Nail Clippers
Flash Drive (to keep your homework on, comes in handy if you lose a report so you can print it out in your school's lab) -
Step 10
Offer to help other students who may seem lost or look like they need a friend. They are just as scared as you, if not more! It's a good way to meet new friends.
-
Step 11
Be aware of school policies and codes, as well as any areas off limits to students.
-
Step 12
Don't be judgemental of people. Just because someones strongpoint isn't pretty or popular or talented doesn't mean you should neglect them. They are probably having a hard time by other's judgement and you could be a big help to them. Treat others as you would want to be treated! Just because, for instance, someone is overweight doesn't mean you should judge them or leave them out. Think about you being them and try to be there for them! They could end up being a really great, fun person who you have a lot of fun with. You could be missing out on a really great person by your judgements. It's also the nice thing to do!!
-
Step 13
LOCK YOUR LOCKER!! Find out the school's policy of locker locks and lock it. Think of a combination you'll remember, but others wont guess. A lot of places now sell letter combinations so you can make it a word you'll remember or get a key lock and put the key in your bag or pocket.
-
Step 14
Start up conversations with people before lunch so you will have someone to eat with, if they have the same lunch time that is! Try to talk to as many people as you can, but don't gather in groups in the hallway (or walk on the left side) this annoys the upperclassmen and can cause injuries.
-
Step 15
Make hallway landmarks. Like where that poster is, it's just a little down the hall from my Science class! This will help you get around. Keep a schedule on hand also!!
-
Step 16
Be in uniform or dress code!! Dress modestly. Of course, this doesn't mean you have to wear a big wool turtleneck and a loose pair of sweatpants, just dress appropriatly! EH HEM Impressions!!
-
Step 17
Bring all materials for class, pay attention, and try not to be late. Apologize to the teachers. For your first days, they'll probably understand and let you off.
