How to Make Your Home More Environmentally Friendly

Going green is a lifestyle. If you try to green your entire home at once, you will probably become overwhelmed, and also broke. There are a few simple and inexpensive changes you can make to start off.

A shower liner is somethings that everyone has in their homes. Cheap vinyl liners get moldy quickly and must be thrown away. Replace it with a fabric one made of water and mold proof polyester, which is machine washable, and will last for years.

If you have a water-hogging toilet, rinse a plastic milk jug out, fill it with water and place it in your toilet tank. You will use a gallon less water every time your toilet flushes since the milk jug displaces a gallon of water.

Throw away your harsh bleaches and detergents. You can clean everything in your home with vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. This will also save you money on expensive specialty cleaners. Buy a couple of large reusable spray bottles. Fill one with vinegar and the other with hydrogen peroxide. Use the two in combination to bring a spotless shine to your bathroom and kitchen fixtures and countertops. Avoid using the acidic vinegar on granites and marbles, though -- the acid can quickly eat away the smooth surface.
