Make the Perfect Mojito

A Mojito is a very popular Cuban cocktail. Its combination of sweetness and refreshing citrus and mint flavors are intended to mask the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear highball a popular summer drink. Enjoy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 ounces Cuban Light Rum
  • Handful of fresh mint sprigs
  • Juice from 1/2 a lime
  • Soda Water
  • Highball (or tall glass)
  • Ice
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  1. Step 1

Muddle the mint, lime juice, and sugar in a tall glass or highball. By muddle I mean gently mash. If you have the setup the proper tool for mashing is in fact called a muddler! You want to just bruise the mint leaves releasing it's flavor and aroma.

  2. Step 2

Add the rum stirring gently just to dissolve the sugar and lift the mint leaves up for a better presentation.

  3. Step 3

Finally add ice and soda water. Give the concoction a final twirl to gently combine the ingredients and flavors.

  4. Step 4

Add additional mint leaves and a wedge of lime to the glass for presentation and serve. And that is truly a perfect Mojito!

Tips & Warnings
  • The Mojito may be one of the world's first cocktails! One story traces the Mojito to the 16th century when the cocktail was known as “El Draque,” in honor of Sir Francis Drake.
  • Drink Responsibly!
