Make Money Online by Selling Your Kids Clothing on eBay

Do you enjoy dressing your children in name brand or designer clothing? Do you take great care of your kids' clothing and find that they grow so fast you're left with great clothing in great shape? In that case, you may want to consider recouping some of your clothing costs online. Follow these steps to sell your kids clothing on eBay.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you don't already have one, create an eBay account. You may want to purchase a few small items off of eBay to build up your eBay feedback.

  2. Step 2

Create a PayPal account to accept payments from your buyers if you don't already have one.

  3. Step 3

Take stock of the kids clothing you have to sell. Make sure anything you are selling is in good condition.

  4. Step 4

Decide if you will list items individually, in lots (sets), or a combination of both. Research completed listings to see how similar items do well.

  5. Step 5

Take quality photos of the items you have to sell. Create a neutral backdrop on which to photograph clothing. Consider hanging clothing for photographs. Never photograph clothing laying on the bare floor or carpet.

  6. Step 6

Create your eBay listing. Describe each item thoroughly. If there are any imperfections, be sure to note that.

  7. Step 7

Mention any name brands or store brands that are recognizable. Use them prominently in both the title and description.

  8. Step 8

Indicate if your item is new and still has tags. You can use the acronym NWT for New With Tags in the title.

  9. Step 9

Note the size. For most kids clothing the sizes are fairly standardized, but if the size is in question at all, take measurements and mention those.

  10. Step 10

Mention if your item is from a pet free and/or smoke free home. Buyer with allergies or sensitive noses will use this information.

  11. Step 11

Add your photos to your listing. You will get one free photo from eBay, but by hosting your items somewhere else and using a listing service like Auctiva, you can add as many photos as you like for no additional fee.

  12. Step 12

Add your shipping costs. Use these costs to recoup your shipping and packaging costs but don't gouge buyers. If shipping is too high they will move on to another listing.

  13. Step 13

Decide on extras like 'Buy It Now' listings or longer auctions. Some eBay sellers have luck choosing ten day auctions and running over two weekends, but if you're not sure, choose a seven day listing.

  14. Step 14

Maintain good correspondence with your buyers and ship your items promptly after payment. This will build your positive eBay feedback, which will help you do well in future listings.

  15. Step 15

Continue to sell your kids clothing on eBay as your children grow. You may even want to look for additional items at garage sales and thrift stores to add to your profits.

Tips & Warnings
  • Conventional wisdom says that auctions that end on Sunday evenings, when buyers are typically home, do especially well. Experiment and see if that is your experience.
