Step 1
Of course a fantastic mattress can make a huge difference, and if you are in the market for a new mattress I highly recommend you look into a foam mattress with individually wrapped coils. However, you don’t need to break the bank and buy a new mattress to enjoy luxurious and comfortable sleep – a great feather bed will do the trick. Whether you by a new mattress or decide to stand by your current mattress, introducing a feather bed to your sleep environment is one of the easiest ways to bring your bed’s comfort and luxury to the next level and is highly recommended. Feather beds are relatively easy to find, and vary in prices, so shop around at your local department store and online to find the feather bed that best suits your budget. There are also fantastic down alternative options available for those who have an allergy to down bedding.

Step 2
Now it’s time to pick out your bed linens! You will need a fitted bed sheet, a flat bed sheet, and pillowcases. You don’t need to drop a lot of money on your bed linens, but you definitely do need to search around and find linens that fit your budget while also possessing a high thread count (at least 200 – the higher the better) and quality fabric that will caress your skin and will withstand normal washing. The type of fabric you pick is all dependent upon personal preference, but I personally suggest 100% Egyptian Cotton.
-
Step 3
In the previous step we talked about pillowcases, so now it’s time to address the pillows themselves. As with the bed linens it all comes down to personal preference. Usually two pillows per person works perfectly, but if you or your significant other happen to be a pillow hog then by all means get as many pillows as you want/need. (I personally sleep with four pillows!) Feather pillows or down alternative pillows can really help amp up the luxury on your bed, but remember that choosing your pillows is very important and your decisions should be based on your personal needs and desires. Do you want a fluffy pillow? A firmer pillow? A contour pillow? Ask yourself these questions before you go shopping so you can go into the store with a clear idea of what you are looking for in a pillow.
-
Step 4
You are well on your way to being the proud owner of a luxurious bed. All you need now is a great comforter and duvet. When shopping for your new comforter you don’t want to invest in just any comforter, but rather you want something that will help make your bed even more luxurious – down feather comforters or down alternative comforters are the perfect choice, and by shopping around you can definitely find a great one within your budget. Once you have your new comforter it is time to pick out your duvet cover. This duvet cover will not only help protect your new comforter, but it will also help bring together your color scheme, add a splash of color, and/or add some definitive style. Go as crazy or as minimalist as you want when picking out your duvet cover – just make sure that the duvet cover you choose feels nice against your skin and will add to your beds luxurious factor.
-
Step 5
So your bed is looking pretty good right about now, but before you jump in bed for some well earned zzz’s let’s add the finishing touches. Your final assignment is to find the perfect throw blanket to fold neatly across the foot of your bed. Both cashmere and chenille fabrics make for amazingly luxurious throw blankets. Make sure the color works with your bed’s color scheme, and keep in mind that solid colors are usually best – think of your throw blanket as adding the cherry on top for your bed, adding that extra oomph, but not stealing the spotlight. It’s fine if you desire a matching throw pillow or two, but don’t go overboard and do try to avoid crazy prints or patterns – less is always more. Another nice touch of luxury (depending on what type of bed you have – better for more simple minimalist styles) can be added by hanging a romantic canopy from your ceiling – these canopies are usually pretty easy to find, very affordable, and quick to hang.
