If you need current information for your Blog or are doing research and need the latest information about a topic set up a Google Alert. Here are simple and quick steps to set up one or multiple Google alerts.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Need for information.
  1. Step 1

    Update Blog with Information with Google Alerts

    Google is a free resource of retrieving information, on the Internet, that pertains to a certain topic.

    Retrieve Current Information With A Google Alert

    Go to 'google.com' and set up a Google account.

  2. Step 2

    Update Blog, Automatically, With Google Alert

    Once account is set up access your account at 'google.com' and on the upper right select 'My Account'. Click on the 'Alerts' option in the list on the right hand side of the screen under 'Try Something New'.

    Update Blog with Specific Information

    Fill in the Create A Google Alert box as follows:
    'Search items' section-type the topic for the alert. Keep the keywords specific.
    'Type' section give you options on the format(s) you would like to get your information from. Try different options to see which one brings you the information you need.
    'How Often' section provides three options on how often you would like to receive the alert.
    'Your email' section - Type in the email address you want to use to receive this alert.

    Set Up Multiple Google Alerts

    You will automatically go to the 'Manage Alerts' page. This is where you can add or delete alerts or change any criteria you entered previously.

Tips & Warnings
  • Update blog automatically to receive the alert daily or to stay abreast of current information, you should receive your first alert that day, which helps if you are researching something.
  • Google Alerts are a great way to see if a certain topic or keyword will provide you a lot of information.
  • Delete poor alerts or add additional alerts depending on your information needs.
