Decorating the outside of your home isn't just for Christmastime. Many people choose to decorate both the inside and outside of their houses 12 months out of the year. Decorating your porch during the fall months can be both fun and relatively inexpensive. Because there are plenty of great things about that particular time of year, there are also many different ways that you could approach this task. Here are some simple ways that you could decorate your porch in the fall.

Step 1

Begin by placing a large pumpkin or smaller pumpkins on your porch. Pumpkins are associated both with the fall harvest and Halloween. A good thing about using pumpkins to decorate your porch is that you can turn these pumpkins into Jack-o'-lanterns once Halloween time comes around.
Step 2

Place fake leaves on any vertical poles you have on your porch and around the windows. Fall is that time of year when the leaves change color and then fall off the trees. Placing real leaves on your porch can be dirty and eventually somewhat smelly. Instead, find fake leaves at your local craft store. Find leaves of different colors to brighten up your porch. You could also place a rake next to these leaves to add to the decoration.

Search for football-related decorations, and place them on the porch. For many people, fall is the best time of year because it means the beginning of football season. You could hang the flag of a favorite high school, college or pro football team from your porch. There is also plenty of generic football merchandise to be found at local sports and craft stores during the fall.

Hang orange lights on and around your porch. This is truly nothing different than what you would do at Christmastime. The orange lights give both a nice fall and Halloween theme to your porch. They can be found at craft and grocery stores during the fall.

Find school-related items to put on the porch. For many young ones, fall means the end of summer vacation and the beginning of yet another school year. “Back to School” banners and flags are popular choices when it comes to decorating your porch for all.

Buy a fall doormat, and place it on your porch in front of the door. There are doormats for every month of the year in numerous themes. Whether you're searching for a harvest, football, school or any other fall theme, go to your local craft and department store as September comes around.
