How to Build a Wrestling Ring

Many people enjoy the sport of wresting. It is one of the few remaining sports that are like the sports popular in the old days such as jousting or gladiator battles. Many people would love to be involved in wrestling, but either can’t afford lessons, or just can’t make it to a ring to practice or take wrestling lessons. For these people there is the option of building your own wresting ring. This project is fairly easy, and only takes a few hours to complete. Once finished, it will be possible to lean and do every wrestling move that your favorite wrestling star makes during important matches.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide where you want your wrestling ring to go. The best place is outside in a wide open area. Clear the area of any rocks or sticks that might be in the way. Mow the grass if it is long. Then you will want to decide the dimensions of your ring.

    • 2

Use the scissors to cut the foam to match the size of the ring that you determined. A good size is about 8 feet. If you can’t find one piece of foam that is this large, it is possible to glue separate pieces of foam together. Let dry before moving on to Step 3. It is also possible to glue thin pieces of foam together to make thicker foam, the thicker the foam, the better.

    • 3

Cut the material large enough so that it completely covers the foam. Sew together with the sewing machine. Use thick thread, and use a zigzag pattern to avoid rips in the seams.

    • 4

Cut a piece of plywood to match the measurements of your ring size. It should be the same size as the foam mat. Sand the edges and sides. Glue the foam mat to the plywood base. Place the base where you want the ring to go.

    • 5

For an outside ring, dig four holes right at the edges of the base. Put the posts inside the holes, and fill with cement. For an inside ring, screw the posts to a plywood base, and place inside an old tire. Cement in place. Let dry before bringing inside.

    • 6

Measure one post and evenly place three screw rings along it. Do the same for each post. There should be a total of two sets of rings per post.

    • 7

Thread the ropes tightly between the posts. Make sure the posts are where you want them before you do this step.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to place your ring well away from any trees or jagged edges so that it is safe to use.

  • Never try any wrestling moves without the proper wrestling safety equipment.
