Step 1
Start your visit by doing a test of penny machines with a limit of $5. Most slot machines offer you a total of nine bets of five cents each and I encourage you to do all of them. Thus, you will be betting $.45 per spin so you will have about 11 spins to determine if a machine is loose. If it is not, move on. If the machine is “player-friendly,” you should have more than one hit and you should have recouped your $5. If you do much better than that, you have two choices. You can take your money and move to another machine, or you can reset your limit to $10 or $15 and continue on. If you should make even more money, again either walk away or move up to a dime or a quarter machine, setting a limit as you go.

Step 2
Avoid playing the “progressive” machines. Almost never will you find a loose machine on the floor because the ever-increasing jackpots are what keep players coming back, not loose machines.
-
Step 3
Look for slot machines in high traffic areas such as corners or major thoroughfares because your chances of finding a loose machine increase a lot, because the operators want a lot of excitement there to lure people to sit down and play. A great place to find a friendly machine is right on the tile floor that people use to go to the elevators, restaurants or outside. Machines even one row in from there tend to yield less to the player.

Step 4
Above everything else, be disciplined. Even after you find a loose machine, establish a budget for yourself and move on when it is gone. Don't play into the operators' hands by staying on to make a killing. It's exactly what they want you to do.
