How to Get Mildew Odor Out Of Laundry

Perhaps you put a load of laundry in the washer and forgot it was in there. The next day you go to put another load in and see the smelly clothing still in the washer. Get the mildew smell out of your laundry without scrubbing and using chemicals other than you normal detergent and an everyday product you probably have in your pantry. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Mildew smelling laundry
  • Regular laundry detergent
  • 1/4 cup of vinegar
  • Fabric softener (liquid or sheets)

Instructions

      Gather the items needed and start your washer. There is no special temperature you have to use for this method of cleaning. Simply place your laundry in the washer, add your normal laundry detergent, and 1/4 cup of vinegar.

      Allow the laundry to wash on a full cycle. Allow it to go through each step of the cycle.

      Remove the laundry from the washer after the cycle and place in the dryer with normal dryer sheets. If you use liquid softener, add it as you normally would to the final rinse cycle.

      Dry the laundry completely. Now smell the laundry and ensure that you now have fresh smelling items that only an hour ago smelled of mildew.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't add too much vinegar or the detergent will not suds up and it will not allow the detergent to remove any spots that may have begun forming.
