1
Decide what you want your votive to look like. Start out with two of the same basic design. You can choose leaves, dried fruit, berries or a picture of fall that you found in a magazine. Pick out some fall-colored sand that complements the decoration you chose. Cover your work area with some newspaper.

2
Glue on your decorations. Put the glue on the decorations and stick to the outside of the cup. If you are using a picture, square votive holders work best. Leaves will wrap around any cup, and depending on the size of your decoration, you can use more than one. Let it dry for 10 or 15 minutes.

Brush glue on the the rest of the cup. You can overlap your decorations a little, or you can leave an empty area around your decoration, depending on your preference. Sprinkle the sand on the glue. You can use different colors all over or you can do one section with a certain color and another section with another color. Let it dry until you can touch it without the sand moving. Lightly brush on another coat of glue and repeat. Let dry for a couple of hours.

Put in your candle. If you are using dried fruit, match the scent to the fruit. Spice scents always work well for fall projects. Cinnamon and pumpkin are favorites. Light your candle and see how pretty the light is shining through the sand.
