Choose an appropriate sized blanket. Opt for a square blanket that provides enough room to swaddle baby without leaving a lot of excess fabric to be wrapped around baby. Excess layers of blanket can cause overheating. A square blanket of 36 by 36 inches is a good choice for young babies.
