    How to Travel Europe

  1. Step 1

Consider traveling on the train system in Europe. Rail Europe has been in business for more than 60 years and travels through 17 countries, including the UK, Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Spain. The cost is reasonable and sleeper cars are available. Check out the country and regional passes for long-term travelers or the high-speed trains. This is the easiest way to travel Europe.

  2. Step 2

Fly if you are only going to one or two different countries. This will be the most economical for just a few flights within a country or two. There are several smaller airlines in Europe that offer specials for traveling from country to country and tickets can be purchased before your travel begins or while in Europe.

  3. Step 3

Rent a car if you are comfortable driving in a foreign country. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to have an International driver's license to rent a car in Europe. Make certain that you will be comfortable driving at the faster speed limits and very often, smaller spaces. Consider spending the additional money usually required to rent a Global Positioning System (GPS). This will help you to get around easier.

  4. Step 4

Travel by bus. Traveling by bus is the most cost efficient way to travel Europe. Often times the bus system goes to destinations that the planes or trains do not reach. Buses are a very popular way to travel Europe with students and large groups.

  5. Step 5

You can travel around any of the major metropolitan cities in Europe by walking. You never know what you will find or where walking will take you.

  6. Step 6

Travel Europe by ship. While this is probably the most expensive way, a European cruise is an excellent way to see many cities without having to rely on any other forms of transportation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to plan to visit only a few countries at a time. This way you will get to see everything you want and enjoy yourself without the worry of having to quickly leave.
  • Research each country that you are going to and make certain you have weather information so you can properly pack your suitcase.
  • Buy guide books for whatever cities or countries you are visiting. They have maps and list places to see.
  • Travel with friends or family. One of the best ways to see Europe is by sharing it with others. Traveling Europe truly can be a life-changing experience as there are so many cultures in a short space.
  • If you rent a car, you must disclose which countries you plan on traveling to in Europe. There are a few trips where you will not be allowed to bring your rental car, such as from Germany to Italy. This is because insurance is much more expensive in these countries due to theft and damage issues.
  • Be careful on sleeping-car trains and guard your personal items.
