How to Make a Trampoline Net

A trampoline net is used to prevent trampoline users from falling off and injuring themselves. Although you can find a trampoline net at the sporting goods store, you can save a little money by making one yourself. To make a trampoline net you will need to know how to sew basic stitches and be willing to invest a day or two to construct and set up the net.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a tape measure to measure the outside circumference of the trampoline. This is how long your trampoline net will need to be when it is fully assembled. Add about 10 percent to this measurement and buy that length of nylon net from a local marine, tackle or fabric store. Determine how tall you want your net to be. Take this number and determine how many courses of nylon netting it will take to create this height. Usually you will need two to four courses of nylon netting to generate a height of 10 to 12 feet.

Sew together the netting to create the dimensions you want. Use nylon cord and square knots to attach your pieces of netting together. Do not sew the netting into a circle. Leave the ends open so you can get to your trampoline. You will sew Velcro closures on the end for easy opening and closing.

Attach the metal rings to the top and bottom of the netting every 4 feet. The rings will secure your netting to the support bars.

Buy aluminum bars for your netting frame. You can find these at sporting goods stores as well as hardware and home improvement stores. The bars will need to be about 10 feet long. Install metal clips into the top of each pole by drilling a hole through the pole, inserting a metal hoop and then attaching the metal clip to the metal hoop.

Set up your trampoline net. Drive the aluminum poles into the ground about 18 inches. Position them about four feet apart. Slip the rings into the metal clips on each pole to secure your net. Close the net by fastening the Velcro on the ends.
