Make unique eyeshadow colors at home.

Making eyeshadow at home can be turned into a hobby. Not only can you give your eyeshadow creations away as gifts, but you can make custom eyeshadow colors for yourself. Making eyeshadow is not difficult, but there are some essential ingredients you need to use. Fortunately for your skin, the ingredients are natural and healthy for your skin as opposed to other eyeshadow brands that contain harsh chemicals. Read on to learn about how to make eyeshadow.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mica
  • Mini-grinder or plastic bag
  • Powder binder
  • Eyeshadow container
  • Spoon
  • Toothpick
  1. Step 1

Use a mini-grinder or plastic bag to mix the different colored micas together. In order to blend the mineral evenly, it's best to use a grinder. Grinders can be purchased at mineral makeup stores. Mix silvers or golds with a primary color like purple and blue.

  2. Step 2

Experiment by grinding up many different shades of mica and mixing small amounts together. Mix small amounts so you don't waste your minerals on testers. Once you find the shades you like, grind larger amounts so you can make pressed eyeshadow out of them.

  3. Step 3

Pour the ground minerals into a bowl after they have been mixed evenly. Before pouring, look for any streaks of color. If there are streaks, you should mix the minerals better.

  4. Step 4

Spray a powder binder on the minerals that are in the bowl. This will make it easier for the minerals to stick together, which will help them stay on your eyelid when you apply them.

  5. Step 5

Scoop the minerals out of the bowl and put them in an eyeshadow container. Use a spoon to pack the minerals down into the eyeshadow containers. Take a toothpick and carve a simple design or your initials into the minerals. Allow the minerals to dry thoroughly before using them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create custom eyeshadow colors for your friends and family members and give them away as gifts during the holidays.
  • Try to duplicate your store-bought eyeshadow shades.
  • Although homemade eyeshadow does not contain harsh chemicals, it's still possible for your skin to have a reaction to the mica or the powder binder. Test a small amount of the eyeshadow on your skin first before putting it on your eyelid.

on 10/1/2008 This is awesome. Five stars! I've been wondering how to do this - make my own eye shadow. I make my own lipsticks sometimes, but eyeshadow is something I haven't been able to figure out.
