How to Program Home Location on a Garmin Nuvi
While a Gamin Nuvi GPS device is great for directions and getting around town, you can also use it to find things in the city where you live, including restaurants, auto repair and government offices. In order to utilize this feature, you first need to program your home location.

Turn the device on by sliding the switch on the top of the device to the left. Wait for system to start and agree to the warning that you will not use the GPS device while driving.

Select "where to" then select "address." From there, choose the state of your home address, then spell the city and enter in the house number and street.

Select "save" on the bottom right once you have entered in the full address. Enter "home" for the name and press done.

Return to the main menu and again select "where to", then choose "favorites". You should see your home location programmed into you favorites. Select it and verify it is in fact the correct address.

Tips & Warnings
If you maintain multiple residences, you can set them all in your favorites buy using different names.
Never attempt to operate any GPS device while driving.

There is a good reason not to set 'home' in your GPS using your actual address. The same reason you should avoid having your home address in your car, but that may be unavoidable unless you carry your registration with you, but you could hide it somewhere. If your car or GPS is stolen, or they are stolen together, you don't want the thief going to your house (since it is very likely you are not home) and using your garage opener to get in. Set another close by address, maybe a supermarket or better yet the local police station. Think safety, and don't use a neighbor's address either.

Any help in learning how to program my Garmin nuvi would be appreciated. I don't know what model it is but I do know that it gives verbal directions as well as the map. The directions have been lost and the unit does not have a model #.
