There are a variety of reasons people rent condominiums. They offer more space, living layouts and kitchen/laundry facilities, are less expensive than hotels per day and have more of a home feel. Reasons for renting include a vacation, a permanent place of residence, a business or long term stay away from home.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the length of time and purpose of the condo rental. If it is short-term and not your primary residence, you will not have to be as particular about the details, except for price and amenities.

    • 2

Look for the amenities you desire such as pool, garage, clubhouse, water views, beach, or exercise room. Be realistic about how much you will use these services, as there may be an extra cost built into the condo price for them. This is not necessary for vacation rentals.

    • 3

Check the advertising section in "Rentals" of the local newspaper or drive around the area you want to live in to rent a condo that is going to be a primary residence. Many times, condo owners are distressed and cannot sell, but will rent to you for a less expensive rate than ownership.

    • 4

Check the online housing rental agencies for renting a condo for your main residence. There are links within the article. You can also check Craig's List and other neighborhood or city papers.

    • 5

Once you find a prospect, tour the condo to make sure it is the style and layout you desire and available exactly on the dates you need. Keep your eyes open for noise problems and your eyes open for any type of trouble. Visit a few different times of day and evening so you get a feel for what the neighborhood and demographic is like. Make sure the amenities, patios, landscape and exterior are all well maintained.

    • 6

Sign the lease, but make sure the terms and conditions are there. For example, make sure the length of time is spelled out along with rates and security deposit amount. Take pictures of the move in condition. You can skip this step if it is a weekly, monthly or vacation condo rental.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be cautious of condo rentals from eBay or other places you don't know. Try not to put down money until you have the service.
