Step 1
Go to the Sibelius home page and examine the different titles that are available for purchase, if you don't already have Sibelius music notation software. Decide which version of Sibelius will best meet your needs. Online forums are a good way to gather more information about Sibelius, as well.
-
Step 2
Determine the hardware requirements of the Sibelius title you're interested in. Keep in mind that it's best to plan on having more than the minimum requirements in your computer hardware if you want the best performance now, and be able to handle expansions and upgrades in the software platform in the future.
-
Step 3
Consider how much you'll use peripherals with the software. What type of inputs, outputs, and ports will you need to utilize all the features of the software you'll be using? Examine the manufacturer's information carefully to be sure you're not leaving important capabilities out of your machine.
-
Step 4
Shop for a laptop computer that meets the hardware requirements you'll need. You can shop online, or, if you like to get a feel for a machine, go to a store that sells laptop computers. Don't scrimp on screen size when choosing a laptop for Sibelius. Heavily graphic-intensive programs like Sibelius are easier to use if your screen covers more "territory."
