How to Be Jay and Silent Bob for Halloween

Halloween is that time of year when we all get to pretend to be somebody we aren't. Why not go one better and get a friend to join with you to portray a famous duo? Jay and Silent Bob are two comical movie characters you could consider. Their costumes are funny and very easy to come up with. Here is how you can be Jay and Silent Bob for Halloween.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin by purchasing a replica of Jay's yellow jacket. To be as authentic as possible, the jacket should be a zip-up one with a hood. Don't worry about getting the T-shirt exact, though. Since Halloween takes place at the end of October, chances are that you'll have the jacket zipped up for the duration of the evening.

    • 2

Find a long, straight blond wig and purchase the gray “Snoogans” hat for “Jay's” head. Remember that the hair should go down to about your chest, so you'll probably want to try on some wigs before purchasing one. You can find a link to the Snoogans hat in the Resources section.

    • 3

Purchase a pair of black track pants and black boots to complete the Jay outfit. The track pants may have a stripe going down the side, depending on how realistic you want the outfit to look. Basic black track pants and black boots will suffice, though.

    • 4

Begin your Silent Bob outfit by purchasing the “Mooby Hat.” You can order this hat by clicking on the link found in Resources. Remember that this hat must be worn backwards for the outfit to be authentic.

    • 5

Buy a long-collared overcoat from your local department store. The overcoat should be somewhat olive in color and go all the way down to just above the ankles. The coat should be button-up, but it doesn't really matter, as Silent Bob wears it open. Because of this, you should wear a plain black shirt or sweatshirt underneath the jacket.

    • 6

Search for a thin black beard and a pack of cigarettes. You'll probably have to go to a party or wig store to find a replica beard. Silent Bob is often seen smoking in the movies he appears in. If you don't smoke, you could simply have an unlit cigarette hanging out of your mouth.

    • 7

Wear a pair of blue jeans and a basic pair of black “skater shoes.” Airwalk, Vans or any generic brand that looks similar will suffice.

    • 8

Remember that Jay should talk loud and often, and use plenty of vulgar language. Knowing “Jay's Rap” is an integral part of being Jay during Halloween.

    • 9

Be quiet and stoic as Silent Bob. After all, Silent Bob is known as “Silent” for a reason. Normally, he will just stand next to Jay and either nod or shake his head at his partner.

    • 10

Find a convenience store and loiter. Loitering is the favorite activity of Jay and Silent Bob. If you're at a party, you can simply lean on a wall or window somewhere in the room.

This is mostly incorrect, and shows a total lack of knowledge of any Kevin Smith films featuring Jay and Silent Bob. Both of their outfits change every movie. The only movie where Silent Bob wears an olive overcoat is Dogma. In Mallrats he's wearing a Black leather overcoat. His hat is not a Mooby's hat either, it's an IFP (Independent Film Project West) production hat. In mallrats he's wearing Black Jean shorts, with white cut off sweatpants underneath, Jay is wearing the same exact shorts combination. He keeps his cigarette behind his ear, not in his mouth since from what I can remember, he only smokes in Chasing Amy in the Diner, probably outside of Mooby's in Clerks II and possibly outside the quickstop in Clerks. Also, a critical part of the costume is the random crap he keeps in the pockets of that overcoat, and the Batman-esque utility belt that he wears in Mallrats. T...
