How to Make A Spider Rock Craft for Halloween

There are a bunch of wonderful Halloween crafts but creating a spider out of a rock is one that is also able to fool your friends and family. Trick them into thinking there is a real spider in the house with this craft project, especially if you find just the right place to put it when you are done. Any age group can make this spider out of a rock, but smaller children should get an adult to help.

Things You'll Need

• Round rock
• Black paint
• White paint
• Paint brush
• Black pipe cleaners
• 2 google eyes
• Hot glue gun

Instructions

1. Cover your workspace area with newspapers or brown paper grocery bags. This will protect the workspace from any spills. You may also want to have a few napkins or paper towels handy.

2. Find a medium sized rock that is as close to round as you can get. Paint the rock black like a spider and then set it aside to dry.

3. Work on your pipe cleaners while the black rock is drying. You will need 6 pipe cleaners and you do not have to cut them. Take two pipe cleaners and twist them together at one end. Do this two more times so that you have 3 sets of pipe cleaners instead of 6 separate pipe cleaners. The middle part that you twisted together is going to be the base.

4. Place some hot glue from your glue gun on the base of the three pipe cleaners (the spot that is twisted together) and quickly push the rock on top of them. One closest to the front, one in the middle, and one in the back. The rock should be sitting on top of the middle of all 3 pipe cleaners so that you see pipe cleaners coming out both sides.

5. Bend the pipe cleaners to look like spider legs after the glue has dried. You must first bend them up. Then bend them over just a bit, and then bend them back down. You can even bend the tip at the end to create a foot if you want.

6. Use the hot glue gun one more time to add 2 google eyes to the front of the stone. You can get these google eyes at any craft store, such as MIchaels or A.C. Moore.

7. Use white paint to create a mouth for the spider. Make the spider look mean by painting on some vampire teeth. You can be creative and make the mouth as normal or scary as you want. Let the paint dry and display the spider in a spot that is sure to scare your family and friends.

Tips & Warnings

• Consider wearing an apron or a smock to protect your clothing from the paint.

• Younger kids should get help from an adult with the glue gun. It can get very hot and can even burn your skin.
