When camping, the campfire is the centerpiece to the whole experience. There is one type of campfire, however, that looks pleasing but also burns longer, lights quicker and is safer: the cone campfire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10-15 pieces of wood
  • Dried leaves or vines
  • Axe
  1. Step 1

The first step, as with any campfire, is to dig a small fire pit. For the cone campfire, it should be about 1 to 1.5 feet deep.

  2. Step 2

Gather the wood you will use to burn.

  3. Step 3

Cut the pieces so they're all about the same length. When cut and placed in the pit, they should not come more than 1 foot out of the pit.

  4. Step 4

Take three pieces of wood and lean them against each other so they make a triangle/pyramid shape. At this point, they should stand on their own.

  5. Step 5

Add pieces of wood to make the campfire from a triangle or pyramid to more of a cone. You should make sure to leave a little gap in the front for the dried leaves and vines.

  6. Step 6

Once your cone is steady, take some of the dried leaves and vines and put them in the opening.

  7. Step 7

Light the leaves and slowly let them build your fire. This will allow the wood to heat and burn evenly and keep the fire going stronger, for longer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always keep a bucket of water around when making a campfire. If it gets out of control, do not hesitate to put it out.
  • Never use an accelerant once the fire is actually burning. You can possibly cause harm to yourself and to the environment via a forest fire.
