Instructions

Butter both sides of a piece of bread.

    • 2

Cut a hole in the center of the bread with a biscuit cutter.

    • 3

Melt a tablespoon of butter in the frying pan on medium to high heat. Wait for the pan to be sizzling hot.

    • 4

Place the cut bread, called the frame, in the pan. Crack an egg and fill the center hole with the raw egg.

    • 5

Put the remaining piece of bread (the hole that was cut out of the slice), in the pan to toast next to the Egg in a Frame.

    • 6

When the egg white has turned white and the yoke has started to firm, gently flip the Egg in a Frame with a metal spatula. Flip the toasted hole as well.

    • 7

Cook until the yolk is completely firm.

    • 8

Remove from the pan and serve with salt and pepper.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some packaged bread slices are smaller than others. To get a good-sized hole in the center that won’t rip the remaining frame, be sure to use larger-sized bread slices. Wonder bread seems to be sized perfectly for Eggs in a Frame.

  • A metal spatula has a sharper edge than a plastic spatula and makes it easier to flip the Eggs in a Frame.

  • Don't leave the crusts on. Cut the crusts off the bread slice before buttering to make a perfectly square frame.
