Things You'll Need:
- The signed title
- The keys for the car
- A computer with an Internet connection
- Phone
-
Step 1
Make any inexpensive repairs to the car. Any repairs that are made to the vehicle can receive a higher payout at auction. If you spend about $100 making repairs, the donation center will be able to sell the car for a greater profit. In turn, you will receive a higher tax deductible receipt.
-
Step 2
Inspect your car inside and out. Make sure that both are presentable before you donate your vehicle.
-
Step 3
Sign the title to the vehicle in the “seller” area on the back of the title paper. This is needed so that the charity can transfer ownership of the vehicle after the auction.
-
Step 4
Locate the charity of your choice in the Michigan area. Kars4Kids assists Jewish children cope with depression and varying social problems. The Michigan / Indiana Lupus Alliance is a charity that provides support and management to individuals suffering from Lupus. The charity educates and informs families on how to detect the disease in the first stage and control suffering. National Kidney Foundation accepts car donations to assist in research, knowledge for health care workers and methods to prevent kidney disease. The Michigan Humane Society provides food, shelter and medical care for animals that are in need. Teddy Bear Cops is a charity designed to help children that have been struck by an emergency. They believe that a simple teddy bear can bring a smile to a child’s face in the mist of a crisis.
-
Step 5
Call or fill out the donation form on the website for the charity you wish to help. The organization will process your request and then contact you by email or telephone. Once the final agreement has been determined, they will send a tow truck directly to your home for pick-up.
-
Step 6
Leave the keys and title in the vehicle for pick up.

on 10/20/2008 Thanks. Just the info I was looking for. Do you happen to know how it would work for people who always get a tax refund at the end of the year? Would they get this amount back in their refund?
