To finish off crochet is to fasten off the end so that it doesn't come unraveled. This is the last step that you do when crocheting. There are just a few steps to follow to finish off crochet, which should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

From Quick Guide: Crocheting 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  1. Step 1

Leave the crochet hook on the last loop. Cut the end of the yarn, leaving about four inches that you will work back into the crocheted project.

  2. Step 2

Yarn over the hook and pull loose yarn completely through the last loop. This will make a small knot at the end that will keep the item from unraveling.

  3. Step 3

Tug on the knot slightly to make sure it is secure. Don't pull too hard, as some yarn stretches more than some. Now you are ready to weave the rest of the yarn into the crocheted item.

  4. Step 4

Use a yarn needle or use your crochet hook to work the yarn into the last row of stitches.

  5. Step 5

Work your starting piece of yarn into some of the stitches. Some patterns will suggest to work it into the stitches as your progress through the crochet project.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using a yarn needle might be a faster method for finishing off crochet.
  • The end of the yarn can unravel when using the hook to weave in and out of the last crochet row. This can make it more difficult to weave into the piece.
