How to Get Rid of Mice in a Car

Sometimes garden pests just aren't content with the lawn to run about in. This is especially true as the winter or colder months approach. Mice, in particular, are always scurrying about looking for a warm place to snuggle up in. What can you do when these pesky little rodents decide to call your car their home?

Things You'll Need:

• Mouse traps
• Trash bags
• Latex gloves

1. Purchase several mouse traps. Depending on your constitution, you can purchase either glue traps or the ones that snap and capture the mouse in a vise-like grip.

2. Remove all trash from the car. A build-up of trash only encourages mice to nest. Avoid storing tissues and paper towels in the car as mice will shred this stuff to make a nest.

3. Vacuum the car and empty the ash trays. Empty all the nooks and crannies that your passengers use to store their trash including the cup holders, pockets on the back of the seats, and underneath the car seats.

4. Place the traps in the general area that the mice appear to inhabit. Be sure that you set the traps.

5. Remove each trap that captures a mouse as soon as possible. Dead mice give off a very distinctive odor that will make your car uninhabitable until you air it out.

6. Repeat the above steps as often as necessary to rid your car of mice.

7. Avoid eating in the car or leaving any type of food in the car.

• Keeping your car free of mice is easier if you never allow them to discover your car in the first place. Be vigilant when it comes to cleaning the car.
• Dead mice should be removed quickly as they smell up the area in which they are confined.
