      Tile and Carpet Transitions

      Install a piece of tack strip 1/4-inch in front of the tile where the carpet is to be attached. Be sure that the nails are facing toward the tile. Cut back the padding under the carpet to allow a 1/4-inch demarcation in front of the tack strip.

      Set Kick

      Using the carpet kicker, kick the carpet to attach it to the tack strip. This type of kick is called a set kick. Using the utility knife cut the carpet, leaving the carpet 1/4-inch long over the tile.

      Stair tool

      Tuck the trimmed carpet with the stair tool and the transition is complete. The transition is now smooth and looks great. Repair the carpet the same way and your floors look great .

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure not to trim the carpet too far from the tile.
