How to Draw Romantic & Charming Japanese Characters

Drawing romantic Japanese cartoons, which are also known as anime, need to be created with bright colors, with exaggerated body features. The character's shapes are long and their eyes are very large. Even though they are not lifelike at all, they can be attractive and appealing. Drawing anime takes some time to master, but it can be done.

Instructions

1. Japanese characters are not lifelike so many of their features are exaggerated. Draw them with a heart shape face with a strong point to the chin. The color of the skin should be very pale, almost an eggshell color. Most characters have the same face shape, without much variation.

2. Make the eyes large and almond shaped. The eyes really capture the character's face, so you really need to make them noticeably large. The colors of the character’s eyes are usually very dark. Two dark lines above the eyes will be sufficient for the eyebrows.

3. Draw the hair thick and shaggy. Many characters have shaggy, heavy bangs that even fall into their eyes. Girl characters can have either long or short hair. Male characters usually only have short hair. The color of the hair doesn't matter for any character. Some have vibrant, ridiculous colors such as violet and blue, while some have more real tones such as blonde, brown or black.

4. Draw the female characters with long legs, long arms and torso. The male figures are also tall with long features as well. They have very broad shoulders. Females have more shapely legs and breasts. Males are not as shapely, but they do show some muscle, so you will need to show some definition in their arms, legs and stomach.

5. Many Japanese characters use a lot of vibrant colors, so don't be afraid to play with color.
