How to Make A Halloween Wreath

Getting ready for Halloween

Many people hang wreaths up on their doors to celebrate Christmas. You can create a wreath for your front door for Halloween too. This craft is geared toward children and would be perfect for a classroom project. Each child could make her own wreath to take home and hang on her bedroom door. That could inspire parents to create one for the front door. If your child isn't old enough to attend school, you can still help her create this wreath. Just make sure she doesn't put any small pieces in her mouth.

Things You'll Need

• Popsicle sticks
• Glue
• Hot glue gun
• Small wooden pumpkins
• Small wooden ghosts
• Small wooden spiders
• Paint
• Paintbrush

Instructions

1. Decide how big you want your wreath to be. Make sure it isn't bigger than your door. How many popsicle sticks you are going to need depends on the size of the wreath.

2. Take the popsicle sticks and overlap them. You want to create a circle-like figure. Arrange the wreath before you start gluing so you make sure you have the wreath the way you want it first. This will prevent any mistakes.

3. Glue the popsicle sticks together. You can use craft glue or a hot glue gun. If you use craft glue, you will need to wait for the glue to dry before continuing.

4. Paint your wreath. You can paint it a traditional green and then add your decorations, or you can paint it stripes of orange and brown. This is up to you and your style. Make sure that you paint the front and sides of the wreath. It is not necessary to paint the back. Let the paint dry before continuing.

5. Glue on little ghosts, spiders, and pumpkins. You can get these at a craft store such as Michael's or A.C. Moore. Arrange them all the way around the wreath in any pattern that you wish. If you want, you can tie an orange bow and glue it to the top of the wreath.

6. Tap a nail in your door. Make sure the nail is in the center. Hang your wreath on the nail.

Tips & Warnings

• Add little apples or leaves in the empty spaces of the wreath to fill them up.

• Lay out some newspaper so you don't ruin your work surface.

• Wear a smock or an apron when you are ready to paint so you don't ruin your clothes.
