Step 1
Make or purchase a red hooded cape. If you're new to sewing, a cape is an easy pattern. It starts with just a huge semi-circle. You can find cape sewing instructions online or you can visit your fabric store. They're great projects for beginning seamstresses, as it's almost impossible to mess up a cape. Choose to make yours long or short.

Step 2
Get a red dress to wear underneath your cape--unless you've decided to wear lingerie. A short red dress with several layers of tulle underneath (like a square-dancing skirt or a tutu) can be a great look for a naughty Red Riding Hood.

Decide which shoes you want to wear. Since it's an adult costume, you could go with red heels. Or you can play up the innocent girl aspect of the costume, which would mean that some 50s-style black-and-white saddle shoes or simple black Mary-Janes are best. See what works best with the rest of your outfit.

Style your hair with the hood in mind. You might want to wear braids or wavy pigtails.

Put your goodies in a basket and scamper off to Grandmother's house. Be sure to use the whole "What big eyes you have..." speech whenever you meet a wolf.
