Instructions

    • 1

Spend some time picking a color for your child's bedroom. Solid pastel colors are a great place to start. They have a classic look to them and go with nearly every style of decor. Your child can have a hand in choosing the best color; take her with you to the paint store and get a feel for what shades she likes best.

Place painter's tape along windowsills, baseboards, light switches, door frames and any other woodwork you would prefer to keep paint off. Arrange a drop cloth to cover carpeting and furniture. Paint corners, your taped edges and along ceilings with a brush first, then fill in the rest of the walls with paint on a roller. Let dry, preferably for a day, and repeat at least one time for a more solid color.

Further decorate your child's walls with wall stickers. Wall stickers are available in a number of shapes and sizes and are designed to come off easily when you desire a change. Simple silhouettes in the shapes of animals or trees make a cute addition to a child's room. Full-color stickers are another idea; small stickers, such as flowers or sports balls, placed randomly along a windowsill would be a sweet touch.

Paint, freehand, a border along the baseboard and door frames. For a cute outdoor theme, try a cloud. Clouds are an easy form to paint; place some along the top of your child's room. Try your hand at ladybugs or spiders, complete with a layer of green grass along the baseboard.

Tips & Warnings

  • Properly ventilate the room you are painting with an open window or a fan.

  • If you are pregnant, it may be best to have someone else do the painting, unless the area is extremely well ventilated. Acrylic paints are best to use during pregnancy.
