Things You'll Need:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon more of flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- another 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
- 3/4 cups flaked coconut
- 1 cup chopped walnuts

Step 1
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Butter a 9" square pan.
Cream shortening and confectioners' sugar until smooth.
Add the 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and the egg yolk. Blend until smooth.
Slowly blend in the 1 cup flour and mix until smooth. Press this mixture into the buttered pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven and reduce the heat to 350 degrees. -
Step 2
In a bowl mix together the brown sugar, the tablespoon of flour, the baking powder and the salt. Blend well.
Beat in the two eggs, the second 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, corn syrup, coconut and walnuts. -
Step 3
Spread the new mixture evenly over the crust.
Return to oven and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25 minutes. Cool in pan on rack. Enjoy!
