Things You'll Need:
- Plastic canvas
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Felt fabric
- Clear-drying craft glue

Step 1
Cut a piece of plastic canvas approximately 3 by 4 inches in size. This will be the base of your trinket box. Cut four pieces that are the same length as each of the sides of that rectangle. To make a lid, cut out a rectangle a few squares larger than the base of the trinket box. Also cut a narrow strip that can be looped into a handle to lift the lid. Be sure each piece of plastic canvas has a smooth edge without any plastic bumps.

Step 2
Complete the yarn design on each side of the plastic canvas trinket box pieces. Also cover the entire strip that will be the handle for the lid. You can make a solid color, or stitch in stripes, blocks, or other patterns you create yourself. Patterns can also be purchased, or cross-stitch patterns can be used for plastic canvas projects. Make the stitches by threading yarn onto the needle, pushing the needle up through the plastic canvas, and then back down in the square up and right of the first one. Keep your stitches uniform and neat.

Step 3
Cut out felt fabric in precise rectangles one square smaller than each side of the trinket box pieces. Cut out felt for the lid and the bottom of the box as well. Use the clear-drying craft glue to attach the felt smoothly to the inside of each piece. This not only hides the stitching on the inside of the box, it creates a smoother and softer place to keep your small treasures such as jewelry. Allow the glue to dry completely before continuing.

Step 4
Thread a new piece of yarn onto the large-eyed needle and stick it through a corner hole in the trinket box base piece. Keep a length of yarn as long as the plastic canvas piece and tuck it along the edge so it will be sewn over and thus secured. Line up the first plastic canvas side piece and stitch through the corner square on that one, attaching the side to the base. Continue stitching in this looping fashion for the length of the trinket box side. You now have your first side on the trinket box.

Step 5
Stitch the other sides of the trinket box onto the base in the same manner. Then, use the same method again to sew the corners of the trinket box together. When the bottom of the trinket box is completely built out of the plastic canvas and yarn, stitch around the top of the trinket box to finish the edge neatly. This is done by pushing the needle out of the inside of the box, looping that yarn over the top of the plastic canvas piece, and then pushing it back through from the inside toward the outside again.

Step 6
Complete the lid to the plastic canvas trinket box by looping the yarn around the entire outside edge of the plastic canvas piece. Do the same for the strip that will become the handle for the lid. Line the wrong side of the loop piece with felt fabric. Loop the thin strip of plastic canvas and use yarn to stitch it together and then onto the center of the trinket box lid. Then cut and glue a neat rectangle of felt fabric to the bottom of the lid. Your plastic canvas trinket box is now ready to display and use.
