How to Set Up a Canon Pixma MP600 Photo All-in-One Printer

Instructions

      Remove the Canon Pixma MP600 Photo All-in-One Printer from it packing box. Separate the unit from all packaging materials. Set the unit on a flat surface. Remove any shipping tape.

      Open the sheet feeder cover. Raise the paper support. Place your finger in the indention of the paper output tray and pull gently to open the tray. Pull out the paper output tray extension.

      Make sure the document cover is closed. Plug the power cord into a working electrical outlet and into the back of the unit. Open the Operation Panel. Turn on the power by pressing and releasing the On/Off button.

      Observe the Language menu on the LCD readout on the Operation Panel. Press the up or down arrows to scroll through the selections until you find your preferred language. Press and release the "OK" button to select the language. Wait for the LCD readout to display the message “Install the print head and set the ink tank.”

      Lift the printer cover with both hands until it locks into place in its open position. The print head holder will move to the center. Grasp the print head lock lever and lift it until it stops.

      Remove the print head from its protective packaging. Remove the orange cap from the print head. Dispose of all protective packaging.

      Insert the print head into the print head holder. Lower the print head lock lever back into its locked position.

      Remove the protective packaging from the ink tank. Remove the orange plastic cap from the bottom of the ink tank. Dispose of all protective packaging. Insert the ink tank into the ink tank receptacle in the corresponding color slot. Press down until the ink tank clicks into place. Repeat for each additional color.

      Close the printer cover. Load several sheets of letter-size paper into the auto sheet feeder. Adjust the paper guide to fit the stack of paper.

      Select the Head Alignment menu on the Operational Panel. Select the “Yes” option to align the heads. Wait for the unit to complete the alignment process. This should take approximately 6 minutes.

      Press and release the On/Off button to turn off the power. Insert the software CD that came with the unit into the CD-ROM on your computer. When the main menu appears, select the "Easy Install" option. When the list of applications appears, select "Install." Agree to the licensing agreement. You may need to restart your computer, but only if prompted to do so.

      Wait for the Printer Connection screen to appear. Connect a USB cable from your unit to your computer. Wait for your computer to recognize the unit. Register the unit by following the on-screen instructions. Wait for the "Installation Completed Successfully" screen. Click “Exit.”

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not connect the USB cable until the software is installed.

  • Do not turn on the unit until all packaging material and shipping tape has been removed.

  • The print head holder will return to its operational position on the right hand side of the unit if the printer cover is left open for more than 10 minutes. Close the printer cover and reopen to return the print head holder to the center position.

  • Do not touch the electronic connectors or ink nozzles on the print head or ink tanks.
