Make Delicious Homemade Waffles

Tired of frozen waffles? With a waffle maker and the ingredients listed below, you can easily make your own delicious waffles from scratch.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Waffle maker
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 1/4 cups of milk
  • 3 egg whites
  • 2 oz rum
  • 2 tablespoons rum
  • mixing bowls
  • spoons
  1. Step 1

Pour the flour through a sieve into a large bowl. Add the sugar, salt, and water. Mix well.

  2. Step 2

Add the egg yolks and mix again. Add the melted butter. Mix the batter very well for 10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes white.

  3. Step 3

Slowly add the milk while stirring.

  4. Step 4

In a medium bowl, beat egg whites with a hand mixer until fluffy. (To help firm up the egg whites, you can add a pinch of salt prior to beating.) When the egg whites are fully beaten, you should be able to turn the bowl upside down without the mixture falling out.

  5. Step 5

Add the egg whites slowly into the batter, stirring slowly. Do not try to break the egg whites. Just incorporate them until the mixture, until it’s somewhat smooth.

  6. Step 6

Slowly add the rum to mixture. Stir lightly.

  7. Step 7

Warm up the waffle maker on the maximum for seven minutes. Wait for the light on your machine to turn off. Pour enough batter into the machine to cover the waffle slots.

  8. Step 8

Depending on your waffle maker, you will need to wait between two and three minutes. Open the waffle maker and remove the waffles. The waffles should be light brown on both sides. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Tips & Warnings
  • A good waffle maker is essential for producing the best waffles. The best waffle makers heat the batter very well. Stainless steel waffle makers are better in this regard than plastic ones.
  • The recipe should make five to eight sets of waffles, depending on the size of your waffle maker.
  • Make sure that you heat the waffle maker fully before adding the batter. Otherwise, your waffles won’t cook properly.
